Threaded Pods by Chad Balster Glass

PictureThreading the glass color on the main bubble before adding the blow through bits.
The threaded vessel.  I first made these with Mark Matthews (http://www.markmatthewsglass.com/) the summer of 2013 and am grateful for his insight into designing these stunning pods...
The idea is to have colors that both provide an aesthetic experience but also aid in describing the shape of the object (thus mapping the topography of the lobes).

Threaded Egyptian Pods

Picture
Pods Inspired by the glass of Egypt: the first glass threaders.  The coloration is blue on yellow, based on the Core Formed Vessels of old.  Get carried away by these objects a Phoraoh would envy.

Bare Threaded Quad Pods

These show off the beauty of the threading without a distracting base or frit layer.  I really enjoy how these show off the shape of the vessel with such sparse color.

PictureThis is a view of the pod on it's side, allowing light to come through the bottom of the bowl.
Threaded with a dense black, this pod is backed with Fuscia and Citroen.  The Finish allows you to see the more subtle passages without the glare.
