Custom Hand Made Glass Award
Each mouth-blown, hand-turned rondelle is unique...
Like each one of the award recipients, each rondelle is unique and offers individual acknowledgment as well as a dynamic piece of art. These rondelles are decorated with a marbling of a base color accented with two frit applications.
It is finished on the pipe by spinning and heating, eventually opening a shallow bowl form into a flat disc. It is then removed from the punty, slowly cooled and inspected for flaws. Then a sandblasting resist is used to carve a logo, a name, an award title into the surface. Remember: Less is More. My hardware for hanging is quite simple and works with traditional picture hangers and has minimal impact on the wall itself (leaving nothing more than a single nail hole.
This picture set is from the NAWBO awards from 2009. Notice the different tiers of awards correspond to the size of the rondelle (with a base price starting at $95 for the smallest (8"-12") and minimal carving and go up to $350 for a 21" engraved and painted piece).
